Why stablecoins overtook Bitcoin as the dominant deposit currency
Bitcoin was the original casino deposit currency, and through 2021 it accounted for roughly 78% of crypto deposits at the 15 operators we track. By Q1 2026 that share has dropped under 24%. The replacement is not another speculative token — it's USDT and USDC, which together now represent 58% of deposit volume across Stake, BC.Game, Cloudbet, and Roobet combined. The shift is mechanical, not philosophical: players got tired of depositing $500 of BTC, playing for two hours, and discovering the BTC price had moved 3% during the session, silently adjusting their balance up or down regardless of game outcomes.
USDT on the Tron network (USDT-TRC20) is the single most-deposited asset across crypto casinos in 2026. Median fee: $0.80. Median confirmation: 19 seconds. Median deposit size: $260. The Tron-routed variant overtook the Ethereum-routed (USDT-ERC20) version in casino flows in mid-2023 once Ethereum gas regularly exceeded $4 per transfer. USDC has roughly 22% of stablecoin deposit share and is preferred by US-facing operators because of Circle's transparent reserve attestations and its registration with FinCEN as a money services business. Chainalysis reports the same migration pattern across all gambling-adjacent on-chain flows since 2023.
What this means for your bankroll
Wagering $1,000 in USDT through a 35x wagering requirement means you wager exactly $35,000 — the dollar value never moves. Wagering $1,000 in BTC during a week with 8% BTC volatility means your effective WR target swings between $32,200 and $37,800 depending on which day the price moves. For any session with active wagering, stablecoins are strictly better unless you actively want crypto exposure as part of your gambling thesis.
Network selection — why the chain matters more than the coin
Choosing USDT, USDC, or even BTC and ETH is only half the deposit decision. The network underneath determines fee, speed, and whether your deposit even arrives. Send USDT on ERC-20 to a TRC-20 deposit address and the funds are visible on Etherscan but invisible to the casino — recovery costs $50-$200 in operator support time, sometimes weeks, sometimes never.
Ethereum mainnet — when to use it
Ethereum L1 fees ranged $0.30 to $14 across 2025, averaging $2.10. Confirmation: 12-15 seconds per block, 1-3 blocks for casino crediting. Use Ethereum only for ETH itself, or USDC/USDT when the receiving wallet is institutional or when you need ERC-20 token standard for downstream DeFi composability. Avoid for sub-$200 deposits — the fee fraction is wasteful.
Tron — the casino deposit workhorse
Tron's TRC-20 USDT moves 4.8 billion transactions annually as of late 2025. Network fees rarely exceed $1.20; for accounts that maintain a small TRX reserve for bandwidth, fees can be effectively zero. Block time: 3 seconds. All 15 operators we monitor accept USDT-TRC20; 14 of 15 list it as the recommended USDT network at deposit. The trade-off: Tron is more centralized than Ethereum (27 super-representatives validate blocks), which some players consider a security-versus-cost compromise.
Solana — fastest confirmations for active players
SOL deposits confirm in 0.4-1.2 seconds. Fees: typically $0.0005-$0.01. Stake added native SOL support in 2023; BC.Game and Roobet followed in 2024. USDC on Solana (USDC-SPL) is supported by 9 of 15 operators we track. The downside: Solana has experienced 7 documented network halts since 2022, the most recent in February 2025, where deposits queued for 4-9 hours. For high-volume players who play daily, Solana is excellent; for once-monthly deposits the reliability trade-off matters less.
Lightning Network — Bitcoin without the wait
Lightning Network supports BTC transactions in under 1 second with sub-cent fees. Adoption among casinos is steady but partial: Cloudbet, Bitcasino.io, and CoinGames all support Lightning deposits; Stake and BC.Game still require on-chain BTC. Channel-balance issues mean Lightning is better for deposits than for large withdrawals — withdrawing more than $2,000 typically requires on-chain BTC anyway. See our Bitcoin casino guide for which operators settle the Lightning side correctly.
Privacy coins — Monero's narrow but persistent role
Of 22 coins we track, only one is genuinely privacy-preserving: Monero (XMR). Acceptance is limited — 5 of the 15 operators we monitor offer XMR deposits, none of the publicly-listed brands. Roobet dropped XMR in mid-2024; BC.Game removed it in late 2023; both cited compliance pressure from payment processors rather than player demand. Operators that still support XMR include 1xBit, BetFury, TrustDice, and two smaller Anjouan-licensed brands.
The trade-off: XMR remains the only widely-traded asset where deposit and withdrawal addresses cannot be linked on-chain. For players in jurisdictions where on-chain analytics matter — typically because of capital controls or tax exposure — that is the entire point. The cost is liquidity. Average XMR deposit confirmation: 20 minutes (2 blocks). Average fee: $0.18. But on-ramping XMR requires either a non-KYC exchange (Bisq, RetoSwap) or a centralized exchange that hasn't delisted it (Kraken delisted in 2024; KuCoin retains; Binance delisted in early 2024). Volatility is higher than BTC at 5.4% 30-day annualized.
Other privacy-adjacent options
Dash, Zcash, and Litecoin (LTC) often get marketed as "private" — they aren't. Dash uses an optional CoinJoin-style mixer; Zcash transparent addresses are fully traceable and shielded addresses are accepted by only 2 operators we track; LTC is fully transparent on-chain. If on-chain unlinkability is the requirement, XMR is the only practical choice. For everyone else, USDT-TRC20 from a fresh deposit address is functionally adequate.
How we score 22 coins — the methodology behind the dashboard
Our CryptoScore is computed from public, verifiable inputs and updated daily. We deliberately weight casino acceptance at 53% because for a casino-specific score, the coin's actual availability across operators matters more than its market cap or developer activity. A coin can be technically excellent and still fail this scoring if no casino accepts it.
Casino acceptance is computed live
We poll the published deposit menus of 15 reference operators every Sunday at 02:00 UTC. A coin appearing on a deposit menu — not just listed as a marketing claim, but selectable as a real deposit option — counts toward the acceptance percentage. As of this week, BTC sits at 100% acceptance, ETH at 100%, USDT at 100%, USDC at 87%, LTC at 80%, DOGE at 73%, SOL at 67%, TRX at 60%, BNB at 53%, XMR at 33%.
Speed and fee data come from network telemetry
Speed is mempool-to-confirmation median across the last 7 days, sourced from blockchain.com (BTC), Etherscan (ETH), Tronscan (TRX), Solscan (SOL), and equivalent explorers for other chains. Fees are computed as the 25th percentile of the same 7-day window — we deliberately use a low percentile so the score reflects "good enough" usage, not worst-case congestion. Market cap and 7-day volatility are sourced daily from CoinMarketCap.
Tier thresholds and what they mean for you
A 9-10 Excellent score means the coin is accepted at over 80% of our reference operators, has stable price action, fees under $1, and confirms in under 5 minutes — these are the everyday workhorses. 7-8 Strong choice covers coins with one trade-off (e.g. faster but less widely supported, or widely supported but volatile). 5-6 Niche is playable if the operator you want already accepts it. 3-4 Minimal and 0-2 Unsuitable are coins where you should convert to USDT on-ramp before depositing. See our methodology page for the exact formulas.
Cryptocurrency FAQ
Which coin should I deposit with for my first crypto casino session?
USDT on the Tron network. Median fee $0.80, confirmation under 30 seconds, 100% acceptance across the operators we track, and zero price volatility during your session. Buy it on Coinbase, Kraken, or Binance, withdraw to a TronLink or Trust Wallet address, then send to the casino's TRC-20 deposit address. Our USDT casino guide walks through this for each major operator.
Is Bitcoin still a good casino deposit currency in 2026?
Yes if you use Lightning Network, no if you don't. On-chain BTC fees averaged $1.40 in 2025 with confirmation times of 10-45 minutes depending on mempool congestion. Lightning Network reduces this to under 1 second and sub-cent fees — but only 7 of the 15 operators we monitor support Lightning. For non-Lightning operators, USDT or LTC is the smarter choice. Bitcoin still makes sense if you're holding BTC long-term and want to wager from your existing stack without converting. Read our Bitcoin casino guide for the operator-by-operator breakdown.
What happens if I pick the wrong network when sending USDT?
Send USDT-ERC20 to a TRC20 deposit address and the funds are on Ethereum but invisible to the casino's Tron wallet. Recovery is possible at most operators if you contact support within 48 hours with the transaction hash and your withdrawal address — Cloudbet documents recovery in 3-5 business days, BC.Game in 7-10 days, smaller operators sometimes refuse. Always verify the network selector on the deposit page matches your sending wallet's network. Mismatched-network errors are the #1 deposit support ticket type per Curaçao GCB complaint data.
Can I use a privacy coin if my country restricts crypto gambling?
Monero deposits are not traceable on-chain, but the deposit itself does not change the legal status in your jurisdiction. If gambling at offshore operators is restricted where you live, paying for it with XMR removes the chain-analysis vector but does not legalize the activity. Some players use XMR specifically to avoid bank-flagging when off-ramping winnings; others use it for principled privacy reasons. See our licensing pillar for jurisdiction-specific notes.
How often does the dashboard update?
Acceptance data refreshes weekly on Sundays at 02:00 UTC after we poll all 15 reference operators. Speed and fee telemetry refreshes daily at 00:30 UTC. Price stability is refreshed every 6 hours. Tier assignments can shift in either direction — most recently DOGE moved from Strong choice to Niche when 3 operators removed it as a deposit option in Q4 2025. Subscribe to our blog for notification when major coin status changes occur.
Choosing the right network for your deposit
Picking the coin is the easy half of the deposit decision. The network underneath decides whether you pay $0.10 or $14 in fees, whether your funds confirm in 19 seconds or 38 minutes, and whether the casino's wallet can even see the inbound transfer. Across the 15 operators we monitor monthly, network mismatch is the single largest deposit-support ticket category at roughly 31% of all cashier complaints in Q1 2026, which exceeds even bonus-related disputes. The fix takes 5 minutes of attention before sending: confirm the network selector on the casino deposit page, confirm the matching network in your sending wallet, then verify the address format. TRC-20 addresses start with "T" and are 34 characters; ERC-20 addresses start with "0x" and are 42 characters; the two are not interchangeable.
Stablecoin networks ranked by cost and speed
USDT-TRC20 is the de facto stablecoin standard at every operator on our list. Median fee $0.10 with a TRX-bandwidth reserve, $0.80 without, median confirmation 19 seconds, accepted by 100% of the 15 reference operators we poll weekly. USDC-Solana sits second on cost at $0.0005 to $0.01 per transfer with sub-second confirmation, supported at 9 of 15 operators. USDT-ERC20 averaged $4.20 in fees through 2025 and is generally a poor choice for any deposit under $1,000. USDT-BSC and USDC-Polygon sit between these two extremes at roughly $0.40 to $1.00 per transfer with 3 to 8 second confirmation, accepted at 11 of 15 operators. Our USDT casino page documents the per-operator network preferences.
Privacy coins and network considerations
Monero (XMR) is the only widely-traded asset where deposit and withdrawal addresses cannot be linked on-chain, and it has only one network (mainnet) with no L2 or wrapped-token variants to mismatch. Median fee $0.18, confirmation 20 minutes. Acceptance is narrow at 5 of 15 operators we monitor. Bitcoin on the Lightning Network solves the speed problem with sub-cent fees and sub-1-second settlement, but only 7 of 15 operators support it; the remaining 8 require on-chain BTC at $1.40 average fee. Players prioritizing privacy over throughput should match the coin to operator support rather than assuming a Lightning channel works everywhere.
